Make sure that the web design services provider that you are going to hire is not working with any of your direct competitors at the moment. This could result in conflict of interest sometimes and will leave you with a very bad experience.

when I was looking for a web design company to design my site
I found that prices vary alot. Usually you will find it costs over 1,500 for a good design
plus web hosting in some cases. I just worked with Artotems www.artotems.com
and found them incredibly helpful at every step, they even gave me affordable web hosting.
You might want to take a look, they respond quickly too just tell them what you need.

Personally I would always recommend that a 'client' registers their own domain so that they always have control of it - otherwise the whole thing can get rather tricky if you want to end your relationship with your designers, but they hold the registration of your domain...
Hopefully you will have a good relationship with the designers and they will happily release the domain to you.
You will need the following:
domain registrar - this does not have to be the same as your hosting company, but many people have the domain registers with their host (not ideal if you ever want to change hosts, but not disastrous either). You will need to get a release code from the design company (they will get it from the registration company that they use), and you use the code to move registration to your own account
hosting - you will need somewhere to host your site once you have built it using DW
